Employees are a company’s most valuable asset. Organizational goals and standards of operation are set by an executive team. However, it is the employee body who put forth the effort to see these accomplishments realized. As organizations join the growing number of corporations adopting a code of ethics, the obligation of its members assumes a more critical role. Ethical agent is added to their list of responsibilities. It is in this role assumed to inspire and influence positive change, as well as enhance their corporate culture by ethical means. Ethical leaders â€Å"teach† ethical conduct to employees through their own behavior. For social learning of ethical behavior to take place, role models must be credible in terms of moral behavior. By treating others fairly, honestly, and considerately, leaders become worthy of emulation by others. (Brown Mitchell, 2010, p. 585). Organizational change is possible by way of individual action. The collaboration of members who possess an ethical presence, and share it with others, guides an organization to moral high ground. Nevertheless, obstacles can present themselves at any moment, threatening previously made plans and good intentions. For example, stakeholder groups may disagree with the organization’s direction or a course of action.
